Arkansas Laws Affecting Labor

Workers’ Compensation

As a result of extensive reforms implemented in 1993, Arkansas now has one of the most progressive workers' compensation programs in the nation. Workers' compensation insurance is more affordable for employers and guarantees that employees will be compensated fairly and thoroughly for compensable injuries. Arkansas's workers' compensation law also includes a fraud investigation unit to address the interests of all parties involved in the claims process.

More than 300 insurance companies underwrite workers' compensation insurance. Rates have dropped more than 35% since the 1993 passage of the Workers' Compensation Reform Act.

Right-to-Work

One of 22 right-to-work states, Arkansas guarantees this provision in its constitution, while some states have laws that can be legislatively changed. Right-to-work states prohibit making union membership a condition for employment.

Anti-Violence Law

Arkansas has a strong anti-violence law. It is unlawful for any person, by using or threatening to use violence, to prevent people from engaging in a lawful vocation in Arkansas. The law makes violence during a labor dispute a felony instead of a misdemeanor.
